656-unit residential scheme among newly approved projects

A 656-unit residential scheme has been given the go-ahead for an “up-and-coming area” of Liverpool.

Vinco Group received planning permission for the four-tower project at Liverpool City Council’s planning committee meeting yesterday (27 June).

A mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom townhouses and 60 studios will be developed on the junction of Leeds Street and St Bartholomew Road for the ‘Freemasons’ scheme.

The towers, designed by Falconer Chester Hall, will be 16 storeys high and will feature alongside landscaped courtyards.

With Vinco Group now looking to start work on site as early as this year following the approval, it is hoped the new properties will appeal to both first-time buyers and professionals.

Chris Boles, senior project manager for Vinco, says: “Our team has worked hard to ensure that the scheme delivers an impressive new development which provides a significant number of high-quality residential apartments in an up-and-coming area of the city.

“Liverpool’s planning committee has a great approach in welcoming innovative design which will enhance the cityscape and deliver much needed residential accommodation.”

During the meeting, a new aparthotel with retail space was also approved for part of Liverpool’s former Rapid hardware store on Renshaw Street.

YPG Developments is behind the scheme of 114 serviced apartments, which will also feature a gym, cycle store, laundry room and reception.

Designed by Day Architecture, the project will retain the distinctive façade of the existing building and a new five-storey block will be set back from it. It will also allow the creation of a roof terrace before the building steps back again with two additional storeys.

YPG managing director, Ming Yeung says: “We are delighted to have secured planning permission for this development on Renshaw Street.

“The proposed use will not only further the economic development of the area by bringing an active use to a currently vacant site but will also enhance the living environment of the immediate and surrounding area.”
