The best places to watch the ‘River of Light’ fireworks display on the River Mersey have been revealed by Liverpool City Council.
The local authority has identified the stretch of the waterfront between Alexandra Tower on Princes Parade and the Echo Arena as the top place to view the action in the city centre.
Wirral residents are advised to head to the promenade and take up a spot between New Brighton through to Seacombe and Woodside.
The build-up to ‘River of Light’ starts at 4pm with a performance from the Bring the Fire troupe at four locations – Mann Island, Princes Parade and Albert Dock’s Salthouse Quay, as well as the Hamilton Square/Woodside Ferry Terminal in Wirral.
This will be followed by a performance from Les Commandos Percu and Deabru Beltzak drummers as they march between Liverpool Town Hall and the waterfront, setting off at 5.30pm.
The main event will kick off at 6.30pm and see fireworks launched from three barges on the River Mersey for around 20 minutes.
Assistant Mayor and cabinet member for culture, tourism and events, Councillor Wendy Simon, says: “This year we are trying something very different, uniting both sides of the River Mersey with an event that we believe will be hugely popular.
“We’re encouraging the whole family to come along beforehand, spend some time enjoying the top-quality street entertainment, watch the amazing fireworks display and then spend time perhaps having a meal afterwards.
“It’s great that we’ve managed to secure sponsorship funding from a number of partners which is helping us deliver a fantastic event and a real economic boost for Liverpool and Wirral.”
‘River of Light’ is being organised by Liverpool City Council and Wirral Council.
