A ‘cutting-edge’ youth facility with an on-site skate park and rooftop football pitch has been unveiled in Wirral.
The Hive in Birkenhead, which was granted planning permission in the summer of 2015, is a £6 million facility launched by national charity OnSide Youth Zones.
Other facilities on offer at the centre include a 28 ft high climbing wall, a ‘state-of-the-art’ film and multi-media suite incorporating a dedicated music studio, a four-court sports hall and a gym.
The venue is based on the charity’s ‘Youth Zone’ model and is one of seven of its kind across the North West and Midlands.
Over 1,000 members have already signed up for The Hive and they will have access to its high-end facilities for just 50p per session.
Situated in the centre of Birkenhead, the building itself is adorned with brightly coloured fins and is fully accessible to young people with disabilities.
Adam Poyner, senior development surveyor at OnSide, says: “The design team and main contractor together have done a great job of delivering a fantastic building, on schedule and on budget, for the young people of Wirral.
“Our network is expanding rapidly with three live projects in London and work already underway on Chorley Youth Zone and Preston Youth Zone expected to start in September 2017. Our Youth Zones are truly inspirational places and demonstrate an investment in young people and The Hive is no different, it will be a community asset for years to come.”
The Hive cater for users aged between eight and 19 or up to 25 with a disability.
