Smithdown Road’s former Hatton’s model railway shop could be transformed into an eatery and new homes if plans are approved.
An application to change the use of the ground floor from retail to a restaurant/café and create apartments on the first and second floors has been put forward to Liverpool City Council.
Three two-bedroom properties and a single one-bedroom home would be included in the building if given the go-ahead.
The site was previously home to family business Hatton’s, which was first established in a small unit on Smithdown Road by Norman Hatton in 1946 and sold anything that was in demand after the war.
Norman gradually found that model trains formed the bulk of the business, and over the years Hatton’s expanded into larger businesses along the street.
The retailer moved to the 364-368 Smithdown Road site during winter 2001/02 before relocating to a premises in Widnes in recent years.
