The first images of how Liverpool’s Metquarter could look following its multi-million pound revamp have been revealed.
Owner Queensberry Real Estate plans to re-position the Whitechapel shopping centre as the city’s “premium retail and restaurant destination”.
After acquiring the Metquarter in January 2016, Queensberry has now submitted a detailed planning application to Liverpool City Council outlining its proposals.
The plans include the introduction of a boutique cinema operated by Everyman Cinemas alongside a new anchor food and drink offer at the Victoria Street end of the former post office.
The Metquarter’s integration with Victoria Street and the new multi-storey car park currently being constructed on the road is central to Queensberry’s plans for boosting footfall.
A document included with the planning application says: “The Victoria Street entrance from the upper ground will become more prominent over the next couple of years following the council’s upgrade of Victoria Street and the opening of the new multi-storey car park.
“Part of the Metquarter proposals look at creating cantilevered terraces from the new restaurants fronting Victoria Street to help animate and connect better with the internal and external spaces, in turn generating the offer and increasing footfall.”
Opened in 2006, the Metquarter is currently home to brands such as MAC, Hugo Boss, Illamasqua, Jack Wills, Carluccio’s and Jo Malone.
Speaking following its acquisition of the shopping centre last year, Paul Sargent, Queensberry’s CEO and co-founder, said: “The main objective is to convert the North West end of the property into A3 use and attract a high quality cluster of restaurants with an all day and evening offer.”
