Fox on location in Liverpool filming new Tolkien movie

Liverpool Film Office is gearing up for another busy season of high profile filming across the city.

Fox Searchlight Pictures is currently on location filming a new movie staring Nicholas Hoult based on ‘The Lord of the Rings’ author J.R.R. Tolkien.

‘Tolkien’, which also features Lily Collins and focuses on the author’s early years as he finds friendship, love and art, is being shot in and around Liverpool over the coming weeks.

The team from Fox and Chernin Entertainment were out in force earlier last month recruiting extras for the project. The Liverpool Film Office is also working with the production team behind the film.

Meanwhile Sky One has recently confirmed its new commission ‘Bulletproof’ will be filming on location in Liverpool this autumn and spring. The production will star Noel Clarke and Ashley Walters as police duo, Bishop and Pike.

Councillor Wendy Simon says: “We are one of the most filmed cities outside of London and production companies are a regular sight on our streets.

“We have a huge amount to offer production companies – amazing and diverse locations and a dedicated film office that delivers what directors and producers want.

“There is huge potential for the future which is why we have ambitious plans for a film studio on Edge Lane which would deliver jobs and other economic benefits.”

Your Move reported in August how the filming of television shows and movies in Liverpool has contributed over £8 million to the city’s economy in the last financial year.
