Kazimier team’s city centre Christmas displays revealed

Light and sound displays by Kazimier Productions will bring a Christmas spectacle to two Liverpool city centre streets this week.

Liverpool BID Company, in partnership with Liverpool City Council, has commissioned the team to illuminate the popular areas as part of the festive One Magical City campaign.

From Thursday (9 November) eight glistening stars suspended along Bold Street will be have lasers shining above them from the bell tower of St Luke’s ‘Bombed Out Church’.

Entitled ‘Follow the Star’, the project will pay homage to the lost eight bells that were infamously destroyed during the Blitz of 1941.

Every half an hour it’ll perform a magical choreographed sequence bathing the night sky in colour for the festive season.

Meanwhile Castle Street’s boulevard will be decorated with 10 rotating star lanterns, casting shards of reflecting light and shadows across the surrounding buildings to highlight the area’s 19th Century architectural heritage.

The Castle Street display will give a nod to the Victorian lighting which previously furnished the area.

Bill Addy, chief executive of Liverpool BID Company, says: “Visitors to Bold Street and Castle Street are in for a visual and audio treat this Christmas and what Kazimier Productions has created is simply stunning and very unique.

“It’s just another reason for people to visit these iconic Liverpool streets during the festive lead-up, and explore the amazing shops, bars and restaurants on offer there.”

Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson adds: “There is always a real buzz around the city centre in the run up to Christmas and the New Year and thanks to Arts Council England funding and the creativity of local organisation Kazimier Productions, these forward-thinking installations will be a welcome addition and provide a unique, immersive experience to get people in the festive spirit.”

Festive spirit will also arrive in Liverpool ONE on 9 November as the leisure complex once again hosts its spectacular Christmas lights switch-on event.

Winter fun will get underway from 4pm with street performances and appearances from pantomime stars.

The main event will come at 6pm with the official switch-on of Liverpool ONE’s 30-metre Christmas tree, when Father Christmas is also expected to make a special guest appearance.

The event will also mark the arrival of a host of seasonal stalls and family attractions for the run up to Christmas and New Year.
