Nearly 100 new Shared Ownership homes could be built on a portion of a former golfing site in the Liverpool City Region.
Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH) is seeking planning permission from Wirral Council to develop a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes on the Bromborough land.
If approved, 98 semi-detached and detached residential properties will transform the New Chester Road plot, which was once occupied by Port Sunlight Golf Driving Range and has since become a brownfield site “ideal for development” according to a planning application.
A document put forward to the local authority regarding the New Chester Road proposals says: “All units will be Shared Ownership tenure and the proposed type and mix of housing has been determined in partnership with LMH Wirral Council based on local market demand requirements.”
The document adds: “The scheme will incorporate as part of the plan, new and much needed high-quality homes for families which will further benefit the wider area and economy by supporting the diverse population, local schools, shops and facilities.”
Liverpool-based John McCall Architects has been working on the plans for the “100% affordable homes” development, which would aim to reach practical completion of the units and final handovers to LMH around June 2019.
The land in question is said to have “significant planning history”, and the residential development of another section of the site is being “actively progressed” by Bellway Homes.
