Information on St. Modwen’s revised Kirkby town centre plans will be available to the local community next week.
The owner, developer and asset manager will host an information event in the area after proposals were altered to meet the requirements of recently announced supermarket operator Morrisons.
People who live and work in Kirkby are invited to attend the 20 October session at St. Chad’s Parade between 11.30am and 5.30pm, when St. Modwen representatives will be on hand to talk through the project.
Paul Batho, projects director at St. Modwen, says: “We have submitted a revised planning application to reflect the requirements of Morrisons which is currently being considered by Knowsley Council. This will be determined by the planning committee in the coming weeks.
“Following a very successful consultation event, we are holding an information event for the people of Kirkby to come and talk to the team to get an update on our plans to extend and improve Kirkby Town Centre.”
Knowsley Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, Councillor Graham Morgan, adds: “This is a really exciting time for Kirkby with Morrisons having agreed a deal with St. Modwen to anchor the proposed new retail development in the town centre.
“I would encourage residents and businesses to take this opportunity to come along and find out more and speak to St. Modwen about the exciting plans for the town centre.”
Work is currently underway to demolish 150,000 sq ft of derelict buildings, making way for the new supermarket as well as large shop units, pedestrian walkways linking to the existing town centre and additional car parking.
Morrisons will create around 200 jobs in the area where, subject to planning, construction work is expected to commence in 2018.
The planning application is due to be heard by Knowsley Council’s planning committee in November.
The project is scheduled to reach completion in 2019.
