It’s safe to say Cosy Club lives up to its name. Walking up the stairs to the main restaurant space you’re greeted by a clash of wallpaper, oil paintings and prints which give you some indication of the eatery’s ‘quirky, eccentric and playful’ offering in the heart of Liverpool ONE.
The informal, homely atmosphere continues inside, where a mixture of dining tables, chairs and sofas take up the large second floor space above the Urban Decay store. The set-up is perfect for the restaurant’s mix of customers – whether you’re looking to eat (it serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner) or simply lounge with a drink or two, Cosy Club has you covered.
Seated at a window seat overlooking Liverpool ONE, my friend and I had the perfect vantage point to people watch whilst browsing the menu. First up was the drinks, and I decided on the English Garden (£7.25) – a mix of Hendricks gin, pressed apple juice and elderflower – while my friend went for Down the Hatch (£7.95); a blend of Disaronno, cherry liqueur and toffee. They went down a treat, and what’s even better is Cosy Club offers a Teatime Tipple deal giving you any two cocktails for £9.95 (Sunday-Friday, 4-8pm), so it’s definitely worth taking advantage of.
The menu is an assortment of favourites you might eat at a gastro pub (pie of the week and fish and chips, for example), alongside lighter options such as salads, risottos and noodles. Tapping into the big trend for small plates, a selection of tapas is also available.
After sharing a plate of olives to start (£2.95), my friend decided on the buttermilk fried chicken (£9.95), served with sweet potato fries, chipotle mayo and house slaw. The chicken was well seasoned, crisp on the outside and tender on the inside and the fries were the perfect blend of sweet and spicy.
As a big burger fan, I ordered the lamb, mint and coriander burger (£10.95). Served with fries and house slaw, the burger included all the flavours of a Greek meze sandwiched between a brioche bun. Harissa hummus, marinated carrot, pickled red cabbage and tzatziki took the place of traditional lettuce and tomato to create a delicious burger with a Greek twist.
At this point we ordered another round of cocktails: the English Rose (£7.75) and Cherry Bakewell (£7.95). The English Rose was a refreshing blend of Hendricks gin, lemon juice and rose water topped with prosecco, while the Cherry Bakewell was a sweet dose of cherry juice, amaretto almond liqueur and rum.
Before browsing the dessert menu, we were dead set on sharing a pudding; that was before I spotted the warm chocolate brownie (£5.95) and my friend eyed up the salted caramel cheesecake (£5.95). Served with clotted cream ice cream, the brownie was indulgent, comforting and the perfect end to the meal. My friend assured me that the cheesecake, with a mountain of caramel popcorn on top, was just as tasty with its creamy filling and buttery biscuit base.
Cosy Club has a warm, inviting atmosphere and comforting food and drink to match; a visit is a must.
